Between the brass library lights, quartz fireplace surround, and white oak built-ins, we’d be hard pressed to pick our favorite element of this living room design. It was important to the homeowners for our team to create a cozy living room for their family of five to relax and enjoy—it needed to be livable. In some cases function and design marry, when more often one tends to win over the other. This was a win in our book: The built-ins provided mom a place to decorate, while the cabinets below are great storage for the kids. This pretty but non-fussy space is perfect for our homeowners to sit back on the couch and entertain their beautiful family.
Library lights, there a splurge! You just can’t find a quality light under $300, but the impact they make and character they create is worth it. When on, they add the a cozy glow to the overall ambience of the room.
Layering multiple trim and mouldings into a single mantle is an affordable way to make a major statement in your living room. In the White Birch project, the mantle was used to create depth and architectural detail to an otherwise simple backdrop. To add contrast, we selected a medium-toned gray quartz inlay. We can’t help but think how stunning this will be with stockings at Christmastime!
To complement the floor, we chose whitewashed white oak built-ins to frame the fireplace—this also tied into the kitchen island. We originally had ivory built-ins planned but that felt too lackluster. The warm wood gave us a neutral backdrop to display a curated mix of antiques, found objects and books. White pops of brass knobs along the base cabinets finished the look. Shop the items below!
